Hello, my name is Blane Horton and I’d like to tell you a little bit about the tomatoes that I breed. There are certain varieties that were named for friends, and also some that were selected by friends of the tomato community across the country. My selections were grown in various parts of the United States and Europe to test for growth in many different climate zones. There are some varieties that might not be completely stable yet, but most of them are. I find it very rewarding to save and select from some of my favorite varieties.
My main goal from the very beginning, in creating certain characteristics, was to choose the most colorful designs, shapes, and plant types; including dwarfs. Aside from those characteristics, great flavor is also very important as well as overall plant health and performance. The multi flora lines in the Reverend Michael Keyes series are just one example of high production, excellent flavors and several colors.
The newly released Spud Viper is another prime example of multi colored fruits on a compact patio type plant which also provides a great flavor balance. The Viper line has become one of my favorites, and my hopes is that it will bring much satisfaction to you and your garden as well.
In the future, I will be adding more lines with new leaf colors to the mix. With the aid of a small greenhouse, my work in tomato breeding projects runs year round down here in Mississippi. I am growing and testing out new lines each and every month of the year.
I would love to hear from my customers, and see how my lines grow for you in your gardens!
Happy growing in 2018, and thank you for your support!
